They handled transforming the much-loved cartoon characters into tangible people rather well. I found myself smiling at each of their real-life manifestations, even if some took a little warming up to (Archie himself perhaps took the longest to accept, and still at times feels like a contrived hero). I appreciate that Riverdale still maintains a note of the surreal - it is a make believe town drawing from its roots in a comic book reality, after all. I love that it`s adapted itself for a modern audience while maintaining a touch of the old. Overall, this series doesn’t boast the best written plot or dialogue that`s ever hit television, but it`s highly entertaining, all the more so if you were a fan of the original comics. I was initially dubious about this being a dark drama rather than a comedy, but they`ve managed to make it work.
