This series got a lot of things right. The cultural references, the soundtrack, the casting.....all dead on. The writing, for the most part, is good....at times great. But the series seems to put all its energy into these elements and skimps on visual style and convincing action. A lot of dialogue scenes drag out and build unnecessary tension, which make the unconvincing action scenes an even bigger contrast. Daredevil had some amazing action scenes that really made the show, and Jessica Jones had character depth and spot on directing. Luke Cage lacks in both of these areas. Many times, I felt like it switched from being a cutting edge modern super hero show to the old Bill Bixby Incredible Hulk series. All of that said though, the good elements far outweigh the bad and this is a solid building ground for future greatness.
